Weh: Legislators Should Oppose Same Day Voter Registration
ALBUQUERQUE – New Mexico businessman and gubernatorial candidate Allen Weh released the following statement today:
“I strongly encourage all members of the New Mexico Legislature to oppose the ‘same day’ voter registration bill now pending in Santa Fe. If this bill is allowed to pass, it will open up New Mexico elections to even more fraud and abuse than we already experience and will jeopardize the legitimacy of future elections. As Governor, I will fight for a real photo voter ID law and veto any bill, like ‘same day’ voter registration, that damages our ability to conduct open and honest elections.”

Reporter's Note: While Chairman of the New Mexico Republican Party, Allen Weh focused heavily on registering voters and was a vocal supporter of requiring New Mexicans to show a valid photo ID in order to cast their vote. While campaigning for Governor, Weh continues to push voter registration and participation in New Mexico elections. This past weekend in Hobbs, his campaign registered 17 new Republicans, and one independent, some of whom will vote for the first time in the June primary.
