Allen Weh says decision to try terrorists on American soil ‘dangerous’

ALBUQUERQUE – New Mexico businessman and gubernatorial candidate Allen Weh released the following statement today:

“Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to provide a ‘fair’ day in court on U.S. soil for the same terrorists who seek to destroy this great nation and western civilization is both dangerous to the American people and offensive to the many who served to protect our country,” Weh said.

Allen Weh referred to the Nov. 14 addition of the Wall Street Journal’s Op-Ed, saying the newspaper summarized the situation very appropriately by stating, “Most Americans, we suspect, can overlook the legal niceties and see this episode through the lens of common sense. Foreign terrorists who wage war on America and everything it stands for have no place sitting in a court of law born of the values they so detest. Mr. Holder has honored mass murder by treating it like any other crime.”

Weh said he believes a governor’s top priority is to provide safety to the citizens the state, just as the president’s No. 1 priority is to protect the people of the U.S. As a strong supporter of the 10th Amendment and prerogatives given to an elected governor of a state, Weh said he will do everything in his power as governor of New Mexico to stop the federal government from confining known terrorists in this state.

Weh is a retired Colonel of the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He served in three wars, from Vietnam to Iraq, led Marines in combat, and was given assignments of significant responsibility throughout his 38 years of service.

He began his service as an enlisted Marine before being selected for Officer Candidate School and serving two tours in Vietnam.

Weh was recalled to active duty during the Persian Gulf War, for the U.S. expedition into Somalia, and to serve as Chief of Staff of Marine Forces Pacific prior to retiring in 1997. In 2003-04, he was recalled from the Retired List to serve in Iraq and given a key leadership role with the creation and organization of the new Iraqi Army.

Weh is the recipient of the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with “V,” three Purple Hearts and five Air Medals. In addition to these combat awards, he also received the Legion of Merit and two Meritorious Service Medals.
