Allen Weh announces Valencia County campaign team
Businesswoman, public safety official, to mobilize New Mexico voters, organize volunteers
ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico businessman and gubernatorial candidate Allen Weh announced his Valencia County campaign team today.
Mary Merrell and Christine Vallejos have joined the grassroots effort to get Weh elected governor and will organize volunteers in Valencia County. Among other duties, the two will be tasked with mobilizing voters, organizing events and ensuring that Weh’s many Valencia supporters make it to the polls.
Merrell, along with her husband, Michael, runs Ambercare, a statewide hospice and home health care service that also provides medical supplies. Merrell served as Valencia County co-chair for President Bush’s 2000 campaign. Bush carried the county in that race. She is a former president of the New Mexico Home Care Association, and she has been named co-citizen of the year by the Valencia County Chamber of Commerce and an unsung hero by the News Bulletin.
“New Mexico has been leaderless for nearly eight years,” Merrell said. “Col. Weh’s military background and business acumen have served him well and will serve New Mexico well.”
Vallejos is the deputy warden at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Valencia County, and she has worked in the state Department of Corrections for more than 20 years. This is Vallejos’ first campaign, and she was motivated to join the team after reading Weh’s biography and stances on the issues.
“Allen is not a career politician. He wants to apply his experience and education to improve our state,” Vallejos said. “I believe he is the best candidate to bring the necessary change and leadership New Mexico needs.”
Weh said Merrell and Vallejos bring diverse experience to the campaign, and he is proud to add them to his growing team.
“Mary and Christine are valuable additions to our Coalition of the Willing, bringing expertise in health care and public safety,” Weh said. “I’m excited to bring them aboard as we continue to reach out to New Mexicans who are ready for some real leadership in state government.”
