Candidate for governor pledges to ‘run for New Mexico’

ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico businessman and gubernatorial candidate Allen Weh will continue to advocate for healthy lifestyles and disease prevention by running in a 10K race in Roswell this Saturday.

Weh, a cancer survivor and lifelong distance runner, said promoting good health and well-being is a big part of his campaign for governor and will be a hallmark of his administration when elected.

“In a state where approximately 8,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year, the least I can do as a political leader is to be an advocate for healthy choices that help prevent and combat serious diseases,” Weh said. “We also have an obesity problem in our country that has to be dealt with, and as governor I intend to ensure our educational system is doing all it can to help combat this problem among our youngsters.”

Upon returning from military service in Iraq in 2004, Weh was diagnosed with prostate cancer. After undergoing treatment, he was declared cancer free in mid-2004 and remains so today.

Weh, 67, has competed in several health awareness races across the country ranging in distances from 5 kilometers to half-marathons. Most recently, he ran the 5k in the Duke City Marathon in October.

Weh is a lifelong advocate of healthy living, believing that proper nutrition and sufficient exercise play a critical role in combating serious illnesses like cancer.

Weh and his wife, Becky, also operate a small organic farm on their property in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque where they grow raspberries for the local market and produce for their own use.
