Weh: Next Governor Will Be Republican

Candidate for Governor says voters are looking for a leader who can govern from Day One

ALBUQUERQUE — After Saturday’s gubernatorial candidate forum hosted by the Albuquerque Tea Party, New Mexico businessman Allen Weh said he believes New Mexico’s next governor will be a Republican.

“We have a really great field of candidates, and any one of them will do a better job than Diane Denish,” Weh said. “But the next governor will inherit a mess, and it won’t be an easy fix. Voters know this, and it’s clear they want seasoned leadership and someone with the ability to govern from Day One. I’m very comfortable stacking my leadership experience against the other candidates and letting the voters decide who they trust.”

Weh told the crowd of more than 100 people at CNM that he is pro-Second Amendment, pro-business, believes marriage is between one man and one woman, and believes voters should be required to present an ID at the polls.

“If you have to have a photo ID to get to see the governor for five minutes, you should need to have a photo ID to vote,” Weh said to much applause.

Weh said that he intends to balance the budget without raising taxes.

“It isn’t that complicated, but they try to make it complicated in Santa Fe,” Weh said. “I’ve run a business for 30 years, and I’ve never spent more money than what I made. I can tell you that as your governor, I won’t spend more money than what comes in the door.”
